Italiano’s: A Taste of Tradition

There are restaurants you visit for a meal, and then there are restaurants that become part of the community. They are the places where families gather around the table, friends meet for lunch, celebrations unfold over favorite foods, and servers begin to recognize customers who have been coming through the doors for years. For more than 25 years, Italiano’s has been that kind of place for families throughout the Lake Houston area.

For owners Al and Suzie, Italiano’s is rooted in something much deeper than simply owning a restaurant. Their family has been in the restaurant business for generations, serving traditional Italian food and passing recipes and traditions from one generation to the next. When Al and Suzie opened the original Italiano’s in Humble in 1999, they brought that family history with them and created a neighborhood restaurant centered around homemade food, generous portions, reasonable prices, and the kind of hospitality that makes guests want to return.

More than two decades later, that original Humble restaurant remains an important part of the Italiano’s story. While the family has expanded to five Houston area locations, the heart behind the restaurant has remained remarkably consistent. Al and Suzie continue the tradition of serving authentic Italian favorites made from recipes handed down for example- the daily practice of baking their own bread, making their own marinara sauce and meatballs.

Of course, anyone who has visited Italiano’s knows that the experience often begins before the entrée ever reaches the table. There is the unmistakable aroma of garlic, olive oil, and homemade tomato sauce coming from the kitchen, followed by one of the restaurant’s most recognizable traditions: warm homemade garlic rolls. Fresh from the oven and served to the table, they have developed a following all their own.

Then comes the difficult part: deciding what to order.

The menu is filled with comforting Italian favorites, from homemade lasagna and classic pasta dishes to Chicken Marsala, calzones, sandwiches, and freshly made New York and Sicilian style pizzas. Chicken, veal, steak, seafood, and vegetarian selections provide even more choices. Whether someone is stopping by for lunch, bringing the family for dinner, or picking up a meal to enjoy at home, Italiano’s has built its reputation on satisfying food at approachable prices.

That combination of quality and value has been important to Al and Suzie from the beginning. Their choice to reject short lived trends and stick to what they know works. Because when you really want to make the WHOLE family happy you have to not only make good pizza but also amazing fresh salads with options like salmon or shrimp.

They wanted Italiano’s to be a restaurant people could enjoy regularly, not simply save for a special occasion. Large portions, familiar recipes, and reasonable prices have helped generations of local families make Italiano’s one of their regular stops. A running joke we have is that many of our customers kids first job is with us….

The restaurant has earned recognition along the way, including Best Restaurant and Grand Prize honors at the Houston Press Menu of Menus event. Yet perhaps the more meaningful measure of its success can be found in the stories of customers who continue to return.

One longtime customer who grew up in New Caney but moved to Florida shared that Italiano’s remained a must visit whenever she returned home. On one trip, she even brought containers so she could take her husband’s favorite Chicken Scallopini back to Tampa. When her server learned where the meal was headed, she carefully prepared and wrapped everything for the flight home. It is a small story, but one that says a great deal about the personal service that keeps customers coming back. When Benny their son moved to the suburbs of Philly to run his own restaurant a few guests stopped by to say hi when they were near by for work.

As Italiano’s has grown, so has the community it serves. Today, three locations in particular bring the Italiano’s experience to families throughout our area: Humble, Northpark, and New Caney.

The Northpark location brought Italiano’s directly into the Kingwood community, making favorite pastas, pizzas, and those famous garlic rolls even more convenient for local families. Most recently, Italiano’s expanded north with its New Caney location, which opened in November 2025. The restaurant reflects the tremendous growth happening throughout the area while maintaining the traditions that made the original location successful.

Meanwhile, where the story began in Humble, another exciting chapter is taking shape.

Italiano’s is preparing to expand the Humble experience with a new bar and banquet hall coming soon. The addition will give guests even more reasons to make Italiano’s part of their celebrations, gatherings, and nights out. The restaurant has long welcomed birthdays, showers, receptions, company dinners, family gatherings, and other special occasions, making the new expansion a natural extension of the role Italiano’s already plays in the community.

Catering is another way Italiano’s brings its food beyond the restaurant doors. From family celebrations to weddings, corporate events, parties, and large community gatherings, customers can bring many of the dishes they already know and love to events of nearly any size.

Through all of that growth, Italiano’s remains a family owned and operated business. Behind the five locations, busy kitchens, and countless plates leaving those kitchens each day is still the family tradition that Al and Suzie set out to continue more than 25 years ago.

It is a tradition built around food, but also around people.

Maybe that is why Italiano’s feels just as appropriate for a quick Tuesday lunch as it does for a birthday dinner with the whole family. It is comfortable and familiar. You can bring the kids, meet friends, celebrate something special, or simply stop in because you do not feel like cooking. Sometimes what you really want is a warm basket of garlic rolls on the table, a generous plate of pasta in front of you, and people you enjoy sitting across from you.

From the original Humble restaurant to Northpark and now New Caney, Italiano’s has grown alongside the communities it serves while holding onto the things that brought customers through the doors in the first place.

Good food. Fair prices. Generous portions. Friendly service. Family tradition.

After more than 25 years, those ingredients are still working.

And if you have somehow made it this long without trying those famous garlic rolls, there is really only one thing left to say.
