For more than 40 years, Sullivan’s Truck, Auto and Collision has been more than just a repair shop in the Kingwood community. It has been a place where relationships are built, trust is earned, and generations of local families have turned when life’s unexpected vehicle troubles arise. Family owned and operated since 1985, Sullivan’s has become a cornerstone of the Northeast Houston area by combining expert automotive repair with something that cannot be found everywhere anymore, genuine care for people.
Owner Danny Sullivan has proudly called Kingwood home since 1977. Long before opening Sullivan’s Truck, Auto and Collision, Danny was part of an award winning team at the Exxon flagship station located at Chestnut Ridge and Kingwood Drive. From 1980 to 1985, the station was recognized as the number one flagship full service Exxon station in the United States, serving executives and families throughout the growing Kingwood community. Danny himself was honored as the number one technician in both 1982 and 1983.
When Exxon announced plans to close the service bays and transition the station into a convenience store, Danny knew he was not ready to walk away from serving the community he had grown to love. With faith, determination, and encouragement from local business leaders, he took a leap and moved his operation into what was once Jed’s Feed Store and Hardware on Loop 494. At the time, it was one of the largest commercial buildings in the area. Danny and his team transformed the space by night while repairing vehicles by day. Armed with little more than determination and a loyal customer base, Sullivan’s Truck, Auto and Collision was born.
Today, those same values continue to guide the business. Customers are not treated like numbers or repair tickets. They are treated like neighbors, friends, and family. Whether someone needs a simple repair, major collision work, or help understanding their options after an unexpected breakdown, the Sullivan team focuses on education, communication, and honesty every step of the way.
“When people shop local and stay away from big box stores, that keeps their hard earned dollars working right here at home where they belong,” Danny shared. “Our customers have supported us for decades, and we will pay that back every chance we get.”
That commitment to personal service has only grown stronger as the next generation of the Sullivan family has joined the business. Danny’s son, Michael Sullivan, and daughter, Kelly Sullivan, each built successful careers of their own before deciding to return home and become part of the family business. Michael, who earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A and M University, brings strong analytical and operational leadership to the company. Kelly, a graduate of Texas Tech University with a background in hospitality and restaurant management, focuses on customer experience, communication, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for every person who walks through the doors.
“We are in the people business,” Michael explained. “We just happen to fix cars. Everybody who walks through our front doors is upset about something, whether they were in an accident or their vehicle broke down. Our job is to educate them, help them feel comfortable, and give them the best repair for their money.”
Together, the siblings create a balance between operations and hospitality. Michael helps oversee operations, reporting and the overall success of the company, while Kelly focuses operations, processes and efficiencies as well as on the personal touches that make customers feel cared for during stressful situations. From offering rides home to keeping customers updated throughout repairs, the Sullivan family understands that automotive issues are rarely convenient. Their goal is to ease that stress and provide confidence during the repair process.
“I think people feel more comfortable when they know a business is family owned,” Kelly shared. “You are trusting someone with one of your biggest assets, and people want to know they are cared for. It is not just about the repair. It is about the communication, the relationships, and making people feel welcome from the moment they walk through the door.”
The team at Sullivan’s also believes strongly in supporting the local community that has supported them for decades. From local churches and schools to first responders and nonprofit organizations, they understand the importance of keeping business local and investing back into the community they proudly serve. During difficult seasons such as the 2008 recession, COVID, and years of road construction in front of their business, the loyalty of their customers carried them through. In return, Sullivan’s continued going above and beyond, even offering vehicle pickup and delivery services during the pandemic to help families stay safe.
Another point of pride for the Sullivan family is the longevity of their staff. Many employees have been part of the team for more than a decade, with some spending much of their careers there before retiring. That family atmosphere extends beyond the Sullivan name and into every part of the business.
After four decades, Sullivan’s Truck, Auto and Collision continues to thrive because they have never lost sight of what matters most, people. Their combination of trusted experience, family values, community involvement, and exceptional customer care has made them a name generations of local families continue to rely on.
As the Sullivan family looks toward the future, one thing remains unchanged, their commitment to serving the community. They said it best, “We go the extra mile to make you smile. Stop on by. You will be glad you did.”
